EMNRCD USDA-NRCS CHANDLER
MINUTES Chandler, Arizona
May 12th, 2008

CALL TO ORDER: By Casey Stechnij at 10:55 am. Present were Casey Stechnij, Jim Loughead, Jason Rowley, Scott Loughead, NRCS- Phill Jacquez, Doug Witte, &Linda Dee Diamantides.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
1. Jim moves to approve minutes from April 14th, 2008. Jason seconds, motion carried.

FINANCIAL REPORT:
1. Board discussion over finances. And 4th quarter checks from SLD. Jason moves to approve financial report, Jim seconds, and motion carries.

NEW BUSINESS:

1. Current events: Discussion of Environmental Plate fund for Ed Centers. Ideas being talked over to have a statewide design competition for kids to design the new plate. Doug asked about Ed Center incentives for SLD money. Discussion follows. Jim talked about current status of AACD office space, and Fall Conf. to be in Aug. 18-20th at Apache Gold in San Carlos.
2. No Executive session needed.
3. Overview of Earth active day 2008. Attendance ~1000 people, who ere actively engaged with all of the event vendors, and the district. Activities included kids games, craft with Linda Dee, ADEQ pledge booth, Everlasting marks, Roots & Shoots resources for Health, Worm drive the Musical, and local ‘green’ businesses.
4. Board discussion on appointed and elected positions for the district. Jason moves to appoint Jim Loughead into the elected position from May 3rd. Jim seconds, motion carries. Jim moves to appoint Jason Rowley and Scott Loughead into the two vacant appointed positions. Jason seconds, motion carries.
5. Green living conf. at the PHX Zoo was attended by approx 300 people. The booth was run by Melrose, Linda Dee, Jamie Collins, and Jackie from Everlasting Marks. Our info and give away were well received, and had 50+ people sign up on an e-mail list to be notified of updates for the Ed Center completion.
6. Corp. Commission paperwork to be completed, and signed at next meeting in June. Note from Doug: Ed Center need to fill out a 990 IRS form, and submit to IRS.

REPORTS:
1. Phill gives NRCS update. (See attachment.)
2. Ed Center report: Fall semester 07- taught 2125 students, 89 teachers; spring 08 1867 students, 125 teachers; total 3992 students, 200+ teachers. Plus 500+ kids grades k-8 at St. Boscos, and 1000 this coming week at Chandler Water festival.
